The Borussia Dortmund defender has vowed to upstage the Bavarian giants in the midweek meeting to strengthen their title chances.
Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels has expressed his desire to beat Bayern Munich in their upcoming league fixture. He was talking ahead of Bayern’s visit to the Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday, April 11. Both sides are currently
separated by three points with Dortmund in the ascendancy.
Hummels reckons that Dortmund stand a better chance of winning the all-important tie. He stated that the Borussians know that a win could seal the title for them and therefore will go only with the intention of winning the fixture.
The centre back mentioned that his side cannot afford to drop points else the momentum will swing in the Reds’ favour. While talking to a local sports publication, Bild, the Germany international further added:
"If we win, I do not think they can take the title from us. If we lose, we are tied. A preliminary decision [on the eventual winners] is thus ready to fall in our favour."
Hummels joined Dortmund on-loan from Bayern in 2008 and signed a permanent deal with the Black Yellows in 2009. The 23-year-old has since then has made 90 league appearances for the reigning German champions netting 11 goals during
the process.
On the other hand, the Black Yellows’ manager, Jurgen Klopp has also expressed his eagerness to beat the Munich giants and take one step closer towards the title. He admitted that it will be a difficult game but his side have been
training intensively for the past few weeks and will give tough time to the Bavarians.
"The three points are there to pick up, which is what we want. In any case, we want to offer the 80,000 fans a spectacle," Klopp concluded.
Dortmund are currently fresh from a 3-1 win over VfL Wolfsburg while Bayern registered a 2-1 win over FC Augsburg. A win for either side will make them strong contenders for this season’s crown.
The Westfalenstadion outfit will also meet the same opposition in the final of the DFB-Pokal on May 12.
