It might happen, even though I could never picture him in a Canadiens jersey!

Also The Penguins have found two potential suitors for defenseman Daryl Sydor. The Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers. If Sydor is willing to waive his NTC, the Penguins will get a pick in return.

  1. These rumors are just like any other rumor, more than likely false.

  2. i think that mats has no intentions of leaving, it still might happen, but i agree, i cant see him in a habs jersey

he probably will, since he sat out the last month or two, and he would be more useful on these teams

  3. Gonch, it sure would be nice to get something for nothing right? I mean if we can get a pick for Sydor that'd be a nice return I think. He was quite underwhelming in his performance and the veteran experience can be had by the 'young bucks' watching videotape.

As for Mats leaving Toronto, I think it would be a shame if he did leave, despite the history of Toronto's Captains leaving... First, he is the Leafs all-time highest scorer. Though he may have been inconsistent at times, and down-right spurty, he has been one of the heartbeats of the team for many many years. Secondly, the HABS?! that would be like suffering a double-loss for him to go to Montreal, the rival Canadian team. Third, is there still that large mural of Mats on the side of the building in downtown Toronto? ... that'd be quite a paint-job to cover that up if it's still there... :P

  4. Why not let Mats leave? Every other Leaf captain in the last 35 years has done so, and most of them at a younger age.

Dave Keon went to the WHA and played in Hartford for six more seasons, then ended up back in the NHL for three years when the Whalers joined the NHL.

Darryl Sittler was sent to the Philadelphia Flyers where he scored 43 goals one season and played about three more years.

Rick Vaive was sent to the Chicago Blackhawks, had a 43 goal season and played six more NHL seasons.

Rob Ramage was sent off to Minnesota and played parts of five more seasons.

Wendel Clark was sent to Quebec and played eight more seasons before the Leafs sadly brought him back for a final year in Toronto where he managed 2 goals.

Doug Gilmour was sent packing to the Devils and spent seven more seasons in the NHL. The Leafs ... slow learners ... brought him back in his final year where he promptly went out and blew out his knee 20 seconds into his first shift.

No reason to get sentimental about Mats. He'll just be joining the Leafs Captains Club.

  5. Gonchar no offense but if you were Sydor would you waive that right?  without them offering huge money he would be stupid to do it...to go from a contender to a questionable situation woul not make sense any other way

i feel bad for some of you Penns fans just hopeing these players will drop everything just to stay.

would you be mad at Malkin if he took more money fron another team?

  6. Mats has been on the Nordiques and Leafs, any self-respecting fan of the Canadien should welcome him with a sucker punch. I would, even at 5' 11 (or 6' 1 in my Tacks)

CANADIENS GOT ALEX TANGUAY !! :) YIPEE !!

  7. How can you have a comment on a RUMOR  it makes no sense
