Matsiewdor War to officiate at Olympics 2012
Matsiewdor War has been recently selected as one of the officials for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
War has the honour of being the champion archer of the Federation Cup and she currently holds the title of being one of the high ranking government officer of Meghalaya.
The Indian champion archer was told of the news formally by the World Archery Federation. The appointment is an added honour to War as it is the only selection of an Indian national made to the archery event in order to act as an official in the Olympic
Games next.
War expressed her jubilation and excitement on the appointment in the following manner, “I am excited to be chosen to represent the country and North-East and my people at home. The former Sports and Youth Affairs director had qualified as an international
judge after appearing for two examinations at Seoul, South Korea in 1994. Even though I have not been able to make it big in international arena as an archer but I am happy to have been able to do this as an official judge.”
The Olympic Games will commence in London next year on the July 27th and last till August 12th. War will be leaving for the capital of London during the final week of the month of July.
The Olympic Games will be held in London after almost 60 years. After the capital of England has successfully staged the Games, it will become the first city in the world to have the honour of hosting the Games for three times.
The first time that the Olympic Games made their way to London was ages ago in 1908. The next time that the Games got back to London was almost half a century later in 1948.
This will not be the first time that War would be acting as an official in any international sporting event. She was the official at the 2006 Doha Asian Games which took place in Qatar, not only that, she was also an official at the Youth World Archery Championships
at Ogden, Utah in 2009.
