Matt Barber conquers Men’s 500m freestyle crown in Austin: 2011 Texas Invitational
Day one of the 2011 Texas Invitational saw several attention grabbing swims, in Austin, Texas, on Thursday, December 1.
Arizona's Matt Barber went on to win the Men's 500m freestyle title on the podium by bashing the finishing barricade in a winning time of 4 minutes and 16.61 seconds. In the meantime, USC's Chad Bobrosky earned silver medal in the respective race by claiming
the finishing divider in a time of 4 minutes and 18.65 seconds and Texas' Jackson Wilcox settled at third place in a time of 4 minutes and 18.75 seconds.
In addition, Arizona's Margo Geer took home the Women's 50m freestyle title in a winning blot of 22.02 seconds. USC's Kasey Carlson finished second place in a time of 22.10 seconds, whereas, Stanford's Sam Woodward settled at third spot in 22.13 seconds.
USC's Vlad Morozov snatched Men’s 50m freestyle title in a time of 19.35 seconds. Texas's Jimmy Feigen got second position in the respective race in a mark of 19.55 seconds, while Arizona's Kelley Wyman settled at third spot in 19.57 seconds.
The Women’s 400m medley relay crown was clinched by Arizona's Sarah Denninghoff, Ellyn Baumgardner, Aubrey Peacock and Margo Geer in a time of 3 minutes and 31.65 seconds, while Arizona's Cory Chitwood, Kevin Cordes, Giles Smith and Kelley Wyman took home
the Men's 400 medley relay title by banging the finishing divider in a time of 3 minutes and 06.98 seconds.
Stanford's Sam Woodward grabbed Women's 100m butterfly title in a thrilling time of 52.06 seconds, while UNLV's Katelyne Herrington finished second in a mark of 52.43 seconds. The bronze title went to Stanford's Felicia Lee in a time of 52.63 seconds.
Arizona's Cory Chitwood took home the Men’s 200m Individual Medley title in a winning time of 1 minute and 41.92 seconds. Arizona's Austen Thompson finished second in a time of 1 minute and 43.42 seconds, whereas, USC's Dimitri Colupaev grabbed bronze title
in a time of 1 minute and 44.10 seconds.
The 2011 Texas Invitational is offering a great opportunity to USA's swimmers to prepare themselves hard for their upcoming meets.
