Matt Barnes working to set up a duel between the Golden State Warriors of 2007 and present: NBA News
With the NBA lockout all set to linger on it doesn’t look like the Golden State Warriors will get a chance to justify that they are on the road to resurgence any time soon. The first two weeks of regular season have already been
called off and chances are that lockout will eat up the whole season.
However, the exhibition game gala continues to fill the craving of fans and also for the players. Matt Barnes, the now Los Angeles Lakers forward has proposed a game that will be featuring players from current Warriors outfit against
the team of 2007.
But why the team of 2007?
2007 and Golden State Warriors. Does it ring any bells? This year marks as one of the best in the history of Golden State Warriors. Finishing as the eighth seed in the tournament, they were to face the No. 1 seed Dallas Mavericks
in the playoffs. Nothing was expected of this seven game series and it was obvious that Dallas would tear the Warriors apart on their way to the next round.
But Warriors managed to pull one the biggest upsets in the history of NBA by thrashing the Mavericks and in doing so emerged as one of the most adored teams in NBA. Baron Davis, Jason Richardson, Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes
were amongst the rosters of Warriors in that season.
Very soon, the dream combination for Warriors will gather soon again if Barnes plan gets successful.
"Since last night we've got a VERY positive response about this game, so we will make it happen. Stay tuned n 4 details! Appreciate the support" Barnes tweeted.
It appears as if plans are already moving ahead. CSNBayArea.com's Matt Steinmetz was the first one to learn about this. Fragments of his report read like this:
“Still trying to nail down some details, but Baron Davis, Matt Barnes, Jason Richardson and Stephen Jackson all might be playing for the "We Believe" team. It is unknown how many current Warriors would participate in the game.
The spot for the game is likely to be the San Jose Events Center, with Oct. 29 possibly being the date”
It is still not clear who would be sponsoring the game, but Barnes hinted that all the profit earned would possibly be donated to one or two cancer foundations, probably including his own named as Athletes vs Cancer too.
Barnes, who underwent a knee surgery recently, is enthusiastic with the prospect of this game. He believes the concept of playing current team against the memorable team of 2007 will appeal to lot of people and fans will come out
in numbers to witness the game.
