Matt Brown not keen on calling out his next opponent – UFC news
UFC 143 winner Matt Brown walked away when it came to calling out his opponent, which is a mere tradition for UFC fighters.
Event UFC (the organisation) encourages fighters to call out their opponent in order to gauge public interest.
However, Matt Brown preferred to stay quiet when it came down to this. Instead, he said, “sort of called out one person in my entire career, and that was Renzo (Gracie). I wished I never did it; I pretty much got barred from their team.”
Matt currently has 13 wins and 11 losses in MMA and 6 wins and 5 losses in UFC. He knocked out Chris Cope on last weekend’s UFC 143 in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Usually, after achieving such a major feat, most fighters talk about how well
they trained and their way to success but Matt stayed quiet which popped up several questions.
In return, when asked about his silence, Matt said, “When I get the media attention, I don't like it, and when I don't, I get mad. What it comes down to is if you win, you get the attention. If you don't, you don't get it.”
Even though Brown did not utter a word about his performance, he did appreciate the ‘Knockout of the Night’ winner Stephen Thompson who gave a super-head-kick to Dan Stittgen to knock him out.
Brown said for him, “If you look at Thompson's kickboxing record and what he's known for – we were backstage warming up and we were like, 'Whoa, this is not going to go good for this guy unless he's got some mad grappling skills because he definitely wasn't
prepared for the striking.”
Although before the fight, Brown was being considered the underdog, he relentlessly proved his fighting skills bringing down his opponent in no time.
However, he still did not exhibit enough to impress analysts and promotional agencies who could have offered him bigger matches. It seems like Brown has a long way to go before he can find himself in the top UFC spot.
For now, Brown should be content over his marvellous performance in the ring against tough fighters like Cope.
