Matt Buttermore selected as Hastings Bronco new coach – Women’s Volleyball
Matt Buttermore has been selected as the new head coach of Hastings College Volleyball team on Monday, December 19.
Matt, who has served as an assistant coach at Bellevue University for past three seasons, will now take over the Broncos. Previously, the HC squad team was looked after by temporary coaches.
Most recently, two former Bronco players Lyndy Rouzee and Abbie Welliver guided the team in the coach’s shoes. They had to take up the responsibility as coach Lori Willadson parted his ways with the team before the start of regular season. Nonetheless, the
Hasting Broncos struggled without the regular coach and finished the season with overall record of 18-15. The success in 18 matches was totally credited to Rouzee and Welliver.
It was certainly not the best performance by Broncos but still they managed to bag more victories that the losses. In fact, the team needed a real mentor who could guide them to more success. Hastings College has been a prominent member of the National Association
of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and they somewhat remained below the par this season. All what the team needed was a new coach. So Matt joined the team as head coach.
Matt Buttermore comes with plenty of experience and he is known for his mesmerising skills. He finished his third season as an assistant coach at the Bruin (Bellevue University) coaching staff, this year. Before that, he was an assistant at Concordia University
in Seward for quite some time. Furthermore, he also has experience coaching several other volleyball clubs. Matt has been a summer camp clinician at the University of Nebraska, the University of Iowa, and Creighton University.
He is a graduate of the University of Findlay (Ohio), where he remained a four-year letterwinner and academic all-conference performer as a middle blocker (MB) for the NCAA Division I men’s volleyball team.
Currently, he lives in Lincoln with his wife Laura, who also has a volleyball background. She was a two-time All-American volleyball athlete at Nebraska and a member of the 2000 undefeated national championship team.
Now that Matt has accepted the role of coach at the Hastings College, he will face the daunting challenge to lead Broncos to success in the next season. He is confident to bring the Broncos back on track.
