Matt Cain and Marco Scutaro lead San Francisco Giants into World Series – MLB Update
All-Star starter Matt Cain and second baseman Marco Scutaro were the main players, who led the San Francisco Giants into World Series finale.
"How fitting that it happened in the rain, October is our most beautiful month in San Francisco and it's pouring outside. It's crazy, just like everything this team has done," San Francisco Giants’ president Larry Baer said for Scutaro.
Later Scutaro said and explained regarding his great performance, “I was just like praying, 'Please, I've got to catch this ball, I got kind of lucky, too. When he hit the flyball the rain stopped a little bit. A couple of minutes earlier maybe I don't catch it."
The Giants, on Monday October 22 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 9-0 and booked their place in the World Series.
“I'm from the desert, so I don't know much about rain, I was very happy to go out there in the rain, the sunshine, it doesn't matter,” Sergio Romo said on his team’s combined effort.
Both players showed good offensive plays and proved too good for the Cardinals. As Cain on the mound and Scutaro on the plate did exceptionally well and earned a great victory for the Giants.
Matt Cain pitched strong 5.2 innings and received only five hits. Allowing no run in his short spell, he struck-out four and maintained his ERA at 2.19.
Marco Scutaro on the other hand, batted four times and scored one run and smashed three hits on his consistent .607 slugging percentage.
Before going this crucial game, both players knew that their team highly depends upon them and if they do well in the coming encounter, the San Francisco Giants will be playing in the World Series against the Detroit Tigers.
As the game started, both looked athletic in the field and did very well against the Cardinals which eventually made sure their team’s place in the 2012 Major League Baseball World Series.
Not just in the post-season, but both players have also been playing quite consistently throughout this regular season and won many games for the Giants.
