Matt Cain outpitches Cole Hamels as San Francisco Giants defeat Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 – MLB

Matt Cain outpitched starter Cole Hamels, as the San Francisco Giants beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on Wednesday, July 27 to tie the series 1-all.
Cain worked seven innings, allowed one walk and one run on four hits while striking-out only one batter to manage his ninth win of the season. The 26-year-old right-hand hurler threw 102 pitches to improve his record to 9-6 with 2.91 ERA in 22 starts.
"I definitely think it helped, being able to look back at that game, try to remember some of the pitches and with the video, to try to help go into the game with some confidence," Cain said.
It was the defending World Champions’ third win in last four games against the Major League current leader Phillies.
After Lincecum was out for today’s start due to illness, the Giants announced in their official twitter page to introduce Cain in Wednesday’s game. Cain played an excellent mental game with his extraordinary cool minded pitching.
"That is some of the best stuff he had," Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy said.
Cain allowed his first run in the seventh inning when the Giants’ batters had already posted a two-run lead. Centre-fielder Aaron Rowand has scored an RBI single in the third inning while Nate Schierholtz had doubled to right-field to fix a 2-0 lead in the
top of the seventh inning.
Javier Lopez went scoreless for his 16th hold and Brian Wilson tossed his 32nd save of the season.
Phillies’ starter, Cole Hamels was a little disappointed with his game. He said, "Any time you play the Giants with that pitching and bullpen, it figures to be low scoring.”
Hamels allowed two runs on six hits and walked one batter in just over seven innings to restrict from his career-high 13 wins. He also made six strike-outs but they were not helpful in saving him from a 12-6 record with a 2.61 ERA.
His reliever Brad Lidge and closer Antonio Bastardo both remained scoreless in their short spells.
Despite losing this game, the Phillies are leading the Majors with 65 wins however, with the impetus of the Giants, New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are moving ahead, it is not soon when the Phillies will find themselves in a struggling position.
