Matt Cain shows recovery sign in simulated game – MLB News
It seems as if San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Matt Cain has recovered from the right elbow injury as he practiced to throw more than forty pitches in replicated game on Thursday. Giants still have not given him a chance to make a start in Cactus League
exhibition.
According to club’s manager Bruce Bochy, 26-year-old right-handed pitcher will have place in starting rotation at least in four games out of remaining 21 spring appearances. Bochy further added that club officials will examine his physical condition in Friday’s
workout. However, the sources revealed that the pitcher might be able to earn a start in CL games.
Cain pitched for second time in spring after his fist game against Arizona Diamondbacks in last month on February 27. The throws were splendid and free from pressure, according to Cain.
"I'm not very good at holding back," he said. "Usually if I'm throwing, I'm letting it go pretty much the whole time."
Matt pretended as if he were pitching in regular game, therefore he pitched equal to three innings. The batters Travis Ishikawa, Brandon Crawford, Nate Schierholtz and Aaron Rowand were on the plate when Cain examined himself with fast pitches.
Matt is a veteran pitcher in Major League as he started his career in 2005 for Giants where he pitched in five innings and allowed just two runs on three hits. That leads him to regular five man starting rotation in the team. Cain has posted 57-62 record
with 3.45 ERA and struck-out 906.
It will be interesting to see how Cain can come-back from injury and become successful in keeping his momentum going to achieve a place in the rotation.
The Giants however, had a good day as they crushed their division rivals Cincinnati Reds 7-0 to take another game in the Cactus League. With the win, Giants got their eleventh win to their name while losing just four in first fifteen games. The club also
moved to first position in CL making most wins in Major League teams.
Giants will play their next game against San Diego Padres at Peoria on Friday, March 11. The Padres have scheduled right-handed pitcher Mat Latos to face the Giants’ Tim Lincecum who has 3.24 ERA this spring.
