Matt Cain will be Opening Day starter for San Francisco Giants – MLB News
The San Francisco Giants have decided their Opening Day starter. Matt Cain will open for the 2012 World Series Champions.
“He sets the bar, He's so consistent from start to start, whether he's got shutout stuff or not,” general manager Brian Sabean said.
Later Cain said, "It's tired because it's tired, It's not like anything is overly tired. There's nothing to think about it. It's the normal end-of-the-year tired."
He added, “You go about it the same way, You try to listen to your body. If it feels good, you just try to keep going through it and you try not to overdo anything. I don't really worry about (all the innings). Sometimes I think everybody else puts more of an emphasis on it.”
Cain did well in the last Major League outing as he achieved 2.79 ERA along with 16-5 win loss, 193 strikeouts and 1.04 WHIP.
Overall he is carrying healthy career 3.27 ERA along with 85-78 win loss, 1278 strikeouts and 1.17 WHIP.
Along with Cain, the Giants have also very good pitchers who also did well in the last season in which the San Francisco side was exceptional and won the World Series.
In-fact all their starters proved their valour and felt the responsibility which helped them against the Detroit Tigers in the final seven-match clash.
From Barry Zito to Madison Bumgarner and from Tim Lincecum to Ryan Vogelsong, all the starters show extraordinary performances and won many games for the Giants.
Evaluating performances of each starter, the Giants also appreciated these four individuals and gave them big incentives after the season.
Especially Ryan Vogelsong was exceptional in the last Major League outing where he achieved 3.37 ERA along with 14-9 win loss, 158 strikeouts and 1.23 WHIP. Overall he is also carrying good career 4.34 ERA along with 37-38 win loss, 513 strikeouts and 1.40 WHIP.
Barry Zito’s performances were also quite consistent with 4.15 ERA along with 15-8 win loss, 114 strikeouts and 1.39 WHIP while overall his career ERA of 3.93 is also considered one of the very best in the Major League.
