Matt Carpenter shows optimism ahead of next season – MLB Update
St. Louis Cardinals utility first baseman Matt Carpenter is looking quite optimistic to play in the next Major League Baseball season. A recent speculation about his changing position from first baseman to third base is certainly making some noise but Carpenter
seems not bothered about any of such rumour.
“Obviously I wouldn’t be telling the truth if I said I didn’t want to be out there every day, The reality of that at the positions I really play isn’t very good. If I’m going to be a guy who plays every day, it’s going to be second base,” Carpenter said
in a recent phone interview.
He added, “I want to win that job. And worst case, if I can only be adequate (at second base), I could still get a few extra games out there and instead of 300 at-bats, I’ll get 400 at-bats. If I can earn their trust out there at second, that’s possible.”
Carpenter achieved consistent numbers in the last Major League Baseball season and went persistent at .294 hitting average along with six homers, 46 RBIs and .365 OBP. Overall his career hitting average of .283 along with 46 RBIs and .359 OBP also makes
him a good role player in the league.
Along with Carpenter, the St. Louis Cardinals have also a strong batting unit. They have some fine hitters who possess the ability to take any challenge in the upcoming season.
Cardinals have two utility catchers Yadier Molina and Tony Cruz who can also hit hard. Yadier Molina currently carries career .279 hitting average along with 77 home runs, 466 RBIs and .336 OBP. He also performed well in the last Major League event and went
consistent at hitting average of .315 along with 22 home runs, 76 RBIs and .373 OBP.
Cruz also considered a good player and knows his game well. Last season, he played well and achieved consistent numbers of .254 hitting average along with one homer, eleven RBIs and .267 OBP. Overall his career stats of .257 hitting average along with 17
RBIs and .291 OBP also makes him a utility player in the league.
