Matt Ellis wins Men’s 100m freestyle gold – Junior Pan Pacific Championships
Matt Ellis of USA won gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle on second day of the 2012 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii on Friday, August 24.
Ellis lived up to the expectations of his supporters as he sustained his fastest qualification spot in the final round and proved his eligibility for gold medal. He faced little competition from his strongest challenger and stepped on the victory stand for
first position.
With his fascinating effort, he not only captured gold medal of the event but also improved the record of the event by posting a wonderful time of 49.24 seconds.
His gold winning effort remained 0.47 seconds ahead of Alexander Graham of Australia, who followed him on the medal rostrum for silver medal by reporting a nice time of 49.71 seconds.
The second position holder was chased by Jack Conger of USA, who remained only 0.13 seconds behind and secured bronze medal of the discipline by touching the wall with an admiring time of 49.84 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Andrew Digby of Australia, who suffered a loss of only 0.06 seconds from overpowering his former finisher and posted a time of 49.90 seconds.
Similarly, Digby was chased by Kenta Hirai of Japan, who stayed 0.41 seconds slower from overpowering his former finisher and transpired on the finishing blockade as fifth fastest finisher by reporting a time of 50.31 seconds.
Hirai was followed by Omar Arafa of Canada, who stayed just a stroke apart and occupied sixth position of the event by reporting a time of 50.49 seconds.
Arafa was trailed by Toru Maruyama of Japan, who remained half a body length behind and secured seventh position of the event by clocking a time of 51.13 seconds.
Maruyama was traced by Robert Gilchrist of Canada, who stayed 0.20 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 51.33 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Ellis was very contented with his gold securing accomplishment in the 100m discipline and expressed his plans of achieving the same at higher levels of swimming.
