Matt Giteau backed by Brumbies to leave Wallabies
Toulon and Bayonne are neck to neck in race to sign Matt Giteau after it was revealed by Brumbies that the Australian international is ready to leave Wallabies after World Cup this year.
Brumbies are on tenterhooks that the trimmed down leadership will create difference that sees them get to the Super Rugby play offs this season. The coach of star studded Brumbies; Andy Friend has always conventionally picked a large faction of players concerned
with the leadership group, but this year he limited the group.
Matt Giteau and Rocky Elsom will be joining Stephen Hoiles as the Brumbies leaders for Super Rugby season 2011. Stephen Hoiles have captained Brumbies in the last two seasons and believes that Andy Friend has made a wise move by cutting the group to just
three players.
The 91 test playmaker for Australia has shown a green signal to a lucrative French contract. Giteau is Australia’s highest paid player in any sport for over five years now. He lost his number 12 shirt to Berrick Barrens in the last test and it didn’t change
his future plan.
Matt Giteau has been a star since his outburst into the international scene in 2002. He comes from a family of rugby stars, including his father Ron Giteau, who is former rugby league player and his sister Kristy, who is dual code rugby international. Bianca,
his wife is a netball player for Adelaide Thunderbirds.
Andrew Fagan, the chief executive of Brumbies, informed that Giteau made it known to the concerned authorities about his departure to French club before last year’s Super 14. Fagan said there were no tough attempts to keep the dynamic inside back in Australia
and was given a heads up from everyone.
Fagan said, “For me it's a non-issue but as much as we'd love him to stay in Australia, we've known that it was more than likely to happen.”
None of the Australian rugby union member was surprised and it is the reason the new recruitments have been done accordingly and this is the reason Christain Lealiifano and Matt Toomua have been held back. They were being targeted by Melbourne Rebels as
starting line forwards.
The anticipation has been on increment since this decision and fans views are already out with bursting vigor across the web on comments, forums and pages across the Australia with relatively the same message, “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out,
Gits.”
