Matt Giteau reads between the lines of latest Robbie Deans statement - Rugby News
Matt Giteau has read between the lines about his future with the Australian rugby team after their coach told the media that he has preserved his men for Rugby World Cup (RWC) 2011. Giteau expressed his disappointment via a tweet as he is sure to be sidelined
from Wallabies squad for RWC, kicking off next month in New Zealand. Giteau wrote on his Tweeter account “Thank u ballboys, thank u linesman! That's it..." this afternoon on August 17.
His reaction has come out after Deans delivered his message to the out of action Australian players about their futures while talking to reporters at Sydney Airport this morning. On his way back to Australia from a successful tour of South Africa, Deans
told the media that he along with Jim Williams and David Nucifora will make no major changes in the current team of Wallabies for the forthcoming global show.
Deans stated this morning that, “We've had all those internal selection discussions and we're clear in our mind. We've been watching (the injured players) and we know where they're at but today is an opportunity to see them and talk to them. We've got the
squad resolved, it's just communicating it now.”
Giteau, who has played at various positions for the Wallabies in his 92 caps’ career, was hailed by ex-Wallaby greats, Stephen Larkham and Mark Ella to include him in the final RWC squad. The two legends supported Giteau in a TV show on August 16 and said
that he has got the ability to play on various positions and must be the part of team during the global event.
Former Wallabies coach, Eddie Jones, also supported Matt Giteau and said, “He's the same age as Dan Carter, and this time last year they were mentioned in the same breath. He's still got it.”
Giteau has been sidelined from Wallabies team after their humiliating defeat by Samoa on July 17. He was dropped from the side and has not played any of the Tri-Nations clashes for Australia. Robbie Deans is expected to announce his 30-member crew for Rugby
World Cup 2011 on August 18.
