Matt Goss to lead Team GreenEdge at the Giro d’ Italia
Team GreenEdge has announced its final roster for the 2012 edition of the Giro d’ Italia.
The Australian team will be represented by a total number of nine cyclists at the event including Fumiyuki Beppu, Jack Bobridge, Matt Goss, Daryl Impey, Jens Keukeleire, Brett Lancaster, Christian Meier, Svein Tuft and Tomas Vaitkus.
Matt White is the team’s Sports Director and he has briefed that the nine-man team will target stage victories especially during the first two weeks.
"I expect the team to be competitive during the early stages. We have a strong team for the stage four team time trial in Verona”, he noted.
The Australian side is built around Matthew Goss and the cyclist is optimistic to hit peak form ahead of the coming event.
The 25-year-old started his professional campaign with Team CSC in 2007 and spent a period of three years with the side.
He accepted an offer from Team HTC for 2010-11 seasons and had to find a new home after the American team announced its demise by the end of 2011 season.
Goss penned a deal with Shane Bannan’s side Team GreenEdge for the 2012 season and opened his winning account during the first stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico 2012.
Team’s Sports Director noted that, "The Giro is an important race for Matt Goss, He's got good form at the Tour of Turkey, and the idea is that he'll hit the ground running at the Giro”.
“He'll have a lot of chances for stage wins. The time he does in Denmark and Italy will set him up for the Tour de France, which is the biggest goal for both him and the team", he concluded.
Matthew had a successful past season and filled his bag with numerous victories including the Milan-San Remo, Bay Classic Series and also bagged stages at the Paris-Nice, Tour of California, Tour of Oman and the Bay Classic Series.
Giro d’ Italia is scheduled from May 5-27 and winner of the race will be awarded with a 170 UCI points.
The second and the third position holders will receive 130 and 100 points each.
