Matt Grevers and Elaine Breeden secure titles in California - 2011 Los Angeles Invitational
Day three of the Los Angeles Invitational began in stunning fashion with the impressive performances of Matt Grevers and Elaine Breeden in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday, July 17.
Matt Grevers earned the gold medal in the Men’s 100m back-stroke meet, while Elaine Breeden took home the Women’s 100m butterfly title. Annie Chandler grabbed the Women’s 100m breast-stroke crown.
Initially, Grevers won the Men’s 100m back-stroke title with a winning time of 54.15 seconds. Most importantly, Grevers broke Peter Marshall’s previous record of 54.19 seconds, set back in 2009.
Meanwhile, Mitchell Friedemann earned the silver medal in a time of 56.07 seconds, while Adam Mania secured bronze after he touched the finishing wall in 56.16 seconds.
Maggie Meyer of Tucson Ford took home the Women’s 100m back-stroke crown with a sterling time of 1 minute and 01.76 seconds, while Stephanie Au of Cal Aquatics snared the silver medal in a time of 1 minute and 01.99 seconds. Lauren Smart settled for bronze
in a time of 1 minute and 02.29 seconds.
In the Women’s 100m butterfly race, Elaine Breeden of Stanford secured the gold medal with a victorious time of 59.27 seconds. Lyndsay De Paul captured the silver medal with a winning time of 59.33 seconds, whereas, Felicia Lee of Stanford snatched bronze
in a time of 1 minute and 00.01 seconds.
In the meantime, the Men’s 100m butterfly crown was taken over by Masayuki Kishida of Tucson Ford with a sterling time of 53.24 seconds, while Tom Shields of Cal Aquatics wound up second in 53.38 seconds. The bronze medal went to Giles Smith in 53.50 seconds.
The Women’s 100m breast-stroke title was clinched by Annie Chandler of Tucson Ford with a triumphant time of 1 minute and 08.65 seconds. Meanwhile, Keri Hehn earned silver in 1 minute and 08.96 seconds, while the bronze medal was secured by Ellyn Baumgardner
in a time of 1 minute and 10.56 seconds. Additionally, Nick Ferrif of Cal Aquatics topped the Men's 100m breast-stroke meet with a winning time of 1 minute and 02.57 seconds.
