Matt Harrison comments on Miguel Cabrera as the Texas Rangers try to deal with the Miguel Cabrera problem
Texas Rangers rallied on Friday, October 14, at the Rangers Ballpark to discuss how to contain Detroit Tigers slugger, Miguel Cabrera. The hard hitter has been a thorn against the club for a very long time now. Matt Harrison took the opportunity to talk
about the Detroit Hitter as well. The Texas pitcher has been on a bad run against player for the 2011 season and he took the opportunity to speak strategy against Cabrera.
"First of all you got to get ahead of him, and you got to mix it in and out," Rangers pitcher Matt Harrison said. "He's a tough hitter, just got to execute the pitch."
Cabrera was .344 in the regular season. In the American League Championship Series, he is 6 – for – 16 with four doubles, a home run and seven walks. His on base percentage happens to be .565 and he will be leading the Rangers into a really messy debate
till the Game 6 encounter kicks off in Arlington.
There have been three solutions to the problem so far and the first one deals with walking Cabrera to first base. The second one suggests pitching the strong man through the middle. The last solution considers pitching the hitter high and towards the inside.
Harrison however believes there cannot be just one way of approaching the problem.
"It's just, his hands are so quick," Harrison said. "You can throw him away the whole at-bat, and then you throw him a fastball in and he somehow gets his hands in there and turns on it. He doesn't have a big leg kick or anything, his wrists and hands are
so strong, he just makes the adjustment from there."
The best way to go up against Cabrera is pitching in the moment. Harrison, being a groundball specialist was 7 – for – 16 during the year against the slugger. He has four strikeouts against him but has also conceded two walks to the big man.
Derek Holland could make it work in Game 6 as he stands on 1 – for – 5 against Cabrera. He also has two strikeouts against the Detroit man.
