Matt Harrison struggles against Cleveland hitters but manages an important win – MLB Update
Tuesday, September 13 spelled a magnificent day for Texas Rangers’ centre-fielder, David Murphy, but that also meant Matt Harrison would succeed in availing his 12th win of the season. The hurler was called up at the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington
against the Cleveland Indians. Battling through a late shaky stint on the mound, the pitcher helped his team win the fixture 10-4.
Murphy went up against the Indians’ starter, Justin Masterson with a solo homer in the second inning. Things fell onto Harrison who took the mound with a responsibility to allow no concessions in runs from his side. The player however was unable to restrict
the Indians as he allowed a homer from Carlos Santana in the fourth.
He then conceded an RBI double to Jason Kipnis in the top fifth. The play allowed Kosuke Fukudome to score the second run for the Indians. He earned a run in the top sixth when Carlos Santana ran home from a wild pitch from bullpen reliever, Michael Gonzalez.
Manager Ron Washington was appreciative of the hurler’s contribution.
"He battled to get us into the sixth, but I just felt I needed to make a change right there," Manager Ron Washington said.
Harrison however had good support from Murphy, Josh Hamilton and the other players of the club as the offensive line up piled ten runs on the scoreboard.
"Offense definitely won the game for us tonight," Harrison said. "I felt good out of the chute and was throwing fine. But I started getting behind hitters, throwing too many pitches, and I made a couple of mistakes. I wish I could have gone deeper in the
game, especially after the way I started."
Harrison ended his role in five innings, allowing three runs to go against him in seven hits and a walk. The star picked up four strike-outs and lowered his earned runs average to 3.56.
The pitcher has been doing well in the season so far and the Rangers can safely rely on him if the club is able to enter the postseason, this year.
