Matt Harrison’s pitching helps Texas Rangers defeat New York Mets 8-1 – MLB Update
Texas Rangers’ starter, Matt Harrison had a remarkable day with the ball as he struck-out four batters in his seven inning pitches and threw the ball with an ERA of 3.00 in the Rangers’ 8-1 victory against the New York Mets at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington,
Texas on June 24.
The Rangers were on top from the very first inning as they posted three runs and got an initial 3-0 lead. Josh Hamilton singled to right-field and Ian Kinsler scored a single run. Adrian Beltre struck a home-run towards left-centre while Hamilton added the
third run of the inning.
In the second and third inning, the pitchers maintained their ideal line and restricted the scoring runs of the batters. The Rangers went ahead 4-0 in the fourth inning when Yorvit Torrealba scored one run on the single-run shot of Elvis Andrus to centre-field.
During the fifth inning of the game, the Mets scored their initial run to cut their deficit 4-1. Ronny Paulino posted the first run when Ruben Tejada singled to centre-field and Daniel Murphy moved to second base.
The batters were unable to post any run on the score-board during the sixth inning as the pitchers tossed the fastballs at their feet. Harrison permitted just one run on seven hits including one earned run and gave up just one walk on his 106 pitches.
Harrison commented on his recovery and said, “It's nice not to have to pitch with a kidney stone or a blister, or a bruise on my arm. It's kind of nice to go out there and not have to deal with those kinds of things.”
The Rangers’ manager, Ron Washington was amused with the performance of Harrison and said, “He's focused. Whatever trouble he created tonight, he was able to pitch around. Continue to do that, it builds your confidence.”
Michael Young homered to centre-field and Beltre contributed one run to add further two runs to their lead and made it 6-1 in the seventh inning. The Rangers took an 8-1 lead during the eighth inning when Kinsler added a single run and Hamilton hit a one-run
homer towards right-field.
At the bottom of the ninth inning, Paulino was struck-out swinging and Angel Pagan grounded out to short-stop.
