Matt Harrison’s pitching helps Texas Rangers defeat Seattle Mariners 9-2 - MLB Update
Texas Rangers’ starter, Matt Harrison had a tremendous day with his pitching as he gave up just two earned runs with an ERA of 3.06 and threw seven inning pitches in the Rangers’ 9-2 win against the Seattle Mariners at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas
on August 8.
The two teams remained score-less in the first inning as the pitchers threw their fastballs in a right line. Dustin Ackley hit a grounder into double play, short-stop to second to first, but at second base, Jack Wilson flied out and at second base Ichiro
Suzuki grounded out. Same is the case with the Rangers as at right-field, Ian Kinsler flied out and at centre-field, Michael Young flied out without adding any run on the score-board.
Rangers posted two runs at the bottom of second inning to get a 2-0 lead. Nelson Cruz homered (409 feet) to left-centre and Mike Napoli put second run for the Rangers when Mitch Moreland drove a single-run shot towards centre-field. In a mean time, the Mariners
also added two runs during third inning to tie the game 2-2.
Franklin Gutierrez and Suzuki both gave some potential to the Mariners and scored two runs collectively at the top of third inning when Wilson doubled off left-field. In fourth inning, the Rangers’ batters scored another couple of runs to take a 4-2 lead.
Daniel Murphy hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to first base, Napoli posted a single run and Moreland got out at second base.
Yorvit Torrealba contributed second run when Kinsler hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to short-stop. Murphy was unable to occupy second base and got out at the end of fourth inning. Rangers continued to extend their lead as they smashed three runs during
fifth inning to move their lead 7-2.
Josh Hamilton scored a single run when Napoli singled off left-centre and Cruz moved to second base. The second and third runs during fifth inning were taken by Young and Cruz, respectively. Rangers led off with 9-2 at the bottom of sixth inning by scoring
two runs. Hamilton and Cruz both added two consecutive runs to give the Rangers a convincing lead.
Harrison gifted five hits and two runs including six strike-outs on his 102 pitches. However, Rangers took a 1-0 lead against the Mariners in the three-game series played at Rangers Ballpark.
