Matt Hasselbeck to start for the Seattle Seahawks despite wrist injury
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck is expected to get the start on Sunday when the Seahawks travel to New Orleans to take on the Saints.
Hasselbeck reportedly has two small cracks in his left wrist after a quarterback sneak play late in the first half of the Seahawks' 36-18 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday 14 November, but the injury is not considered significant enough for him to
miss any game time.
Hasselbeck is set to be outfitted with a protective cast and splints to protect the injury and should be fit enough to get the call.
"We took a really serious, good look to figure it all out and feel very comfortable with it," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said to reporters concerning Hasselbeck's situation. "He's going to be uncomfortable, you know, for a while here."
Hasselbeck had thought his day against the Cardinals was finished after sustaining the injury, but he came back in the second half and threw for a very impressive 333 yards and one touchdown on the day.
"(Hasselbeck) comes back out and just shows his grit and toughness and how determined he is to help this football team in any way that he can," Carroll said.
The 35-year-old Hasselbeck had missed the Seahawks' week 9 match-up against the New York Giants after sustaining a concussion while playing against the Oakland Raiders, but bounced back quickly and got the call the following week.
The Seahawks, at 5-4, currently lead the NFC west despite having a minus-33 point differential. They did themselves an enormous favour by collecting their second win of the season against their division rivals, the Cardinals, and improved to 3-1 against
teams in the division and 4-2 in the conference. With the win, the Seahawks also bounced back after suffering two lopsided losses in a row as they continue to vie for the division title and play-off spot.
