Matt Holliday may feature in Game 4 for the St. Louis Cardinals – MLB Playoffs
The St. Louis Cardinals have included the name of slugger Matt Holliday to play in Game 4 of National League Division Series. The final decision shall be made prior to the game owing to the problems Holliday has been suffering from.
For a long period of time now, Holliday has found it difficult to pitch or bat comfortably due largely to the tendinitis in his right hand. Nonetheless, as he described, there has recently been significant improvement in it.
The team manager Tony La Russa thinks that the inclusion of his name in the roster relies mainly on the pregame warm-ups that the player will have. The fact that Holliday has to face Roy Oswalt of the Phillies, there is a fair challenge in playing a game
of nerves and that too when you’re not completely fit.
Despite the painful problem he has had, Holliday, being an inspirational professional, he still wants to do something big on the given day. "I just hope to help the team in some way," Holliday said. "That's all I ever want to do."
Matt Holliday played a total of 124 games, remaining 446 at-bats this season. He has maintained a wonderful average of .296 whereby he has 22 home-runs to his credit, having 132 hits and 75 RBIs with a .525 SLG.
The team manager thinks he is an invaluable asset for the team. However, tendinitis has bothered the slugger as he will marshal all his resources on Wednesday to go against the Philadelphia Phillies in the important Game 4.
"I know he's a tough guy, he can take a lot," La Russa said. "I think a lot depends on his swing. [Phillies starter Roy] Oswalt is a very live arm that you can't go in there handicapped and compete fairly. We'll wait and see."
With NLDS entering into its decisive phase whereby the Phillies will clinch the series if they win Wednesday’s game, a lot depends on the Cardinals how they reverse the tide and Holliday will be instrumental in it.
