Matt Hughes: The odds are against Chael Sonnen as Anderson Silva knows how he brawls - UFC News
Matt Hughes, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Hall of Famer and a two-time welterweight champion, recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming UFC 147 Chael Sonnen-Anderson Silva bout and said that odds are totally against Chael since Silva now knows
him very well and this aspect will help him in anticipating Sonnen’s moves.
One of the best welterweights in the history of UFC, Matt, while putting forth his comments in a brief interview said that Chael performed extremely well in his previous skirmish with Silva adding that it was the best performance Sonnen could have ever put
forth.
Matt, who annihilated several huge names during his illustrious career, said that Silva’s claim of not performing well because of a rib injury is absurd since during the bout nobody has even a split second to concentrate on the injuries.
Matt while totally negating the thought said that every brawler in UFC goes in a fight with one or two minor or major injuries. Hughes remarked, “Nobody goes out there 100 percent. It just doesn’t happen. So he might have been injured, but in the middle
of a fight, you're not sitting there thinking about your rib. You’re just not.”
The veteran Hughes said that it is impossible that Silva did not perform well because of his injury adding that he did pull off from a possible lose by making Chael submit. Matt went on and said that Silva has this unique ability to learn and memorise his
opponent’s style of fighting.
It is this reason why Matt said that he believes the result might be the same and the only difference would be in the fact that this time Sonnen takes a bit more beating than the last time.
Matt, who has been in a total 54 bouts and came out victorious in 45, explained that Chael’s UFC 117 performance was his optimum adding that he cannot improve further since he has already reached his limit of perfection.
Hughes commented, “I don’t think Chael can switch it up as much. I don’t think he can do much different, to be real honest. That’s what he does, and that’s what he’s going to do again, probably. And Anderson will be more ready for it this time than he was
last time, so we’ll see Chael may be getting hit a few more times this time."
Hughes, who himself is famous as a submission as well as knockout specialist, said that Silva, the current UFC middleweight champion, knows how to improve and this time he will come more prepared adding that if we take into consideration last time’s rib
injury, it is obvious that Silva will perform far better if he is totally fit.
Chael and Anderson are scheduled to enter the octagon for a much anticipated rematch on June 23, 2012 at UFC 147 pay-per-view. The duo first met in 2010 in a bout which had Silva’s middleweight gold on the line. Sonnen had a clear upper hand in the whole
bout when in the last round Anderson caught him in a triangle armbar and won the bout via submission.
