Matt Hughes believes Georges St-Pierre is better than Anderson Silva – UFC News
Former 170-pound fighter Matt Hughes believes welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is way better than middleweight champion Anderson Silva. According to Hughes, if GSP and Silva collide, the former will be the one victorious. While most analysts and fans
believe Silva is the best pound-for-pound fighter out there, Hughes dares to differ, claiming that GSP is a better striker and wrestler.
In his recent interview published on BJPenn.com, Hughes asserted, “I really believe if GSP and Silva fight, Georges will have his hand raised. GSP is not a great wrestler, but he transitions so well from striking to wrestling that he will be on Silva’s legs
before Anderson even knows what’s going on.”
He added, “I believe Georges is that quick and I don’t think Silva will be able to do a whole lot with Georges on top of him. Georges is going to be in great shape, he always is and I don’t think Silva would be able to use his weight advantage on GSP to
try and tire him out.”
Showing confidence in GSP over Silva is a bold move by Hughes. However, considering the fact that the ‘Spider’ is old and he will not fight for probably a year, as he will be shooting a film with Steven Seagal, Hughes claims might just prove right.
Georges St-Pierre is currently scheduled to fight interim welterweight titlist Carlos Condit at UFC 154 in Montreal on November 17. If GSP wins the fight, he will go head to head against Anderson Silva, at least that is what UFC president Dana White has
assured. It will be the first ever super-fight between Silva and GSP, only if GSP is victorious over Silva.
To add fuel to fire, Silva will be presented in the arena to watch GSP take on Condit. It will be a time of judgement for GSP. He needs to grab a win in order to prove he is still the same fighter he was two years back when he left the arena.
GSP will be making his comeback against Condit. ‘The Rush’ knows the importance of this fight as it will take him a step closer to a fight against the titan of UFC Anderson Silva.
