Matt Hughes hoping for Georges St-Pierre to extend his career – UFC News
Matt Hughes is definitely one of the legends of UFC. The former welterweight champion has fought enough epic battles to remain memorable for years. He is now at the verge of retirement and he regrets nothing. Instead, unlike others, he wishes his nemesis
Georges St-Pierre best of luck for the future, hoping the welterweight champion finishes more fights.
“My one criticism with Georges is I wish the guy would finish more people because I know he has the ability to,” said Hughes via The MMA Hour.
“He's the best guy I've ever fought. I just wish he would go out there and do that to everybody else the way he made me feel. I'm not being mean, I'm, just being very honest. The guy has so much talent, just go out there and use it all. I think he's just
very careful,” he added.
Hughes has lost twice to GSP, and he believes the welterweight champion is the best in the business. According to Hughes, it is about time for GSP to get a little aggressive with his career and fight more often.
“He doesn't want to lose, which of course nobody does, but then the more effort you put into finishing a fight the more you open yourself up,” he added.
Hughes was then asked as to who he thinks is the best welterweight of all times. The former champion was honest in his opinion, saying it is either him or GSP.
“You would have to say either me or Georges. I guess to differentiate, it would be opinion,” he said.
According to Hughes, since GSP has beaten him twice, he would be regarded as the best of all time.
GSP is scheduled to make his return after almost 18 months of exile. He is being eyed by middleweight champion Anderson Silva for a showdown. Considering GSP’s potential and skills, not just Hughes, even Silva is impressed.
Hughes, 39, is being pressed by president Dana White to retire, and the former champion is good to go with it. He has not fought since a year and his last fight was a knockout loss.
