Matt Hughes reluctant for one more fight – UFC news
Matt Hughes, after losing his two recent fights by knockouts, announced retirement plans earlier but now he has gone back on his words saying that he believes he has one more fight left in him.
Matt Hughes, who is a former UFC welterweight champion, says he wants to have one last fight for UFC.
However, Hughes is still being pressurized by his wife to give it up since she thinks he cannot take it anymore. For Hughes, his wife is now the final decision maker.
Revealing his plans, the former champion asserted, “I think Dana could be the final decision-maker. My wife's a great lady, but she's not going to tell me when Matt Hughes retires. I'm just hoping I can fight next. We'll see what happens - I'm not scouting
anybody out, I'm just hoping the opportunity is here for me now.”
Hughes has had a great career and he is rated among the best UFC fighters of all times. He also was inducted in the UFC Hall of Fame. According to some analysts, Hughes career got a setback when he lost his welterweight title to Georges St-Pierre.
On cancellation of his retirement plans, the former champion reiterated, “I'm just hoping I can fight next. We'll see what happens. I'm not scouting anybody out. I'm just hoping the opportunity is here for me now.”
Hughes was having a great career until he reached his 19-1 mark which was being considered a great score for the fighter. However, in his last seven fights, he has lost more matches than he won. The fighter was defeated in 4 matches and won only 3 with his
last fight ending up in a knockout by Josh Koscheck.
As of now, there are no certain plans of the fighter as to whether he will retire or not. As he said, he is counting on his wife to make the final decision for him but there is still some passion in him left for the sport.
If his wife is to make the last call, there are chances that she will not allow him to fight again considering his last couple of performances.
