I know he hasnt retired yet but he had a press conference saying that he would retire before he was anyones highlight reel.... at UFC 85 ( no disrespect at all ) he became Thiagos highlight reel. Matt Hughes has been nothing but a positive classy representitive of this sport and i just want to say if he does retire Thank You, Thank you for evrything Matt. That Aside do you think its time for him to hang up the gloves. Do you think he should have one more go with serra?

  1. He should do the Serra fight, then walk away from the game. He's had a good run. The game is starting to pass him by. I'm sure he can still be sort of competitive, but I'd hate to see him become a "gatekeeper" He should focus on running his MMA training camp. I'm sure h**l create some champions.

BTW, his knee did give before he went down, But Alves was controlling the fight, and probably would have won a decision or stopped Hughes eventually.

  2. Matt is no longer a top contender but Serra isn't either so 1 more match with him is good.

  3. Wuboy there brings up a very good point in that his fighting style is very physically demanding and so is the training for it.  More-so than someone like GSP's fighting style.  You sometimes see this in boxing as well where a fighters style levies so much wear and tear on their body that while they are still good fighters their body loses some of its ability to train for such fights or actually perform at that level that it used to.  Sometimes a fighter will alter his style and extend his career but this is really hard to do and most fighters are not very successful in this. While not seeing his recent fight a flying knee brought an end to the fight that I have read he was controlling up to that point.  If that is the case then he really just got caught by something which happens and take that out of the picture and he still has the ability to train and fight just about anyone and be a threat.  As time goes on this will lessen of course but a fight with Serra is not out of the question for him and I would look forward to watching him fight Serra or just about anyone else just based on what he has accomplished in the past.  Being a world champion several times over takes a lot of resilience and sounds like someone out of professional wrestling where things are scripted which is not the case here.  I think he still has one or two good fights left in him and I bet Serra is on the top of the list.

  4. It would be a gift to the whole world if we never have to see that pompas *** Matt Hughes again.  I hope he goes to Sparta and gets kicked into the endless pit.  He is past his prime and like an old horse just needs to be shot.

  5. Yes, I do think it is time for Matt to sit back and enjoy the legend he has created.  He did end up a highlight reel at Alves' hands and it is time.  He fought a heck of a lot with an excellent record.

It is time for Matt to retire and enjoy his status as the greatest welterweight of his time.  Heck, He beat Royce Gracie, that is a fight of legend.  Matt had a physically demanding fighting style, he should give himself time to rest and enjoy his little girl.

Beating Serra will serve no purpose, we all know who Matt Hughes is. Serra will fade back to a BJJ school owner on Long Island while fighters aspire to attain a record like Matt Hughes,

  6. Matt Hughes was never a true champion!! His matches were scripted!!

  7. yea i think he might go with serra but that might be it after that.. he looks like a fighter over the past two fights that is just ready to move on with his family and things like that.. id like to see him and matt serra but the way matt came out last night and in the fight with st. pierre matt hughes looks like hes done with it
