Matt Kemp shines as Los Angeles Dodgers defeat San Francisco Giants 8-2 - MLB Update
Los Angeles Dodgers’ centre-fielder, Matt Kemp had a tremendous day with the bat as he went 4-for-5 with an average of .326 and hit two RBIs including a one-run homer in the Dodgers’ 8-2 win against the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles
on September 22.
In the first inning, Giants’ batters were able to add one run while Dodgers posted two runs to take a convincing 2-1 lead at the bottom of the first inning. Carlos Beltran hit a solo homer towards centre-field to give the Giants a solid foundation. On the
other side, Juan Rivera struck a two-run homer to left-field and Kemp scored the second run for Los Angeles.
Brandon Belt ground out to the pitcher while Brandon Crawford and Chris Stewart both struck-out without adding any run for the Giants. Similarly, Dodgers’ catcher Rod Barajas popped out, Jamey Carroll flied out and Hiroki Kuroda ground out to the pitcher
at the bottom of the second inning. Dodgers raised their lead 3-1 by posting one run at the bottom of the third.
Dee Gordon scored a single run when Rivera drove towards centre-field and Jerry Sands moved to second base. In the fourth inning, Barajas contributed one run to give the Dodgers a 4-1 lead when Gordon drove a single-run shot to right-field and Kuroda occupied
second base. At the bottom of the fifth, Dodgers’ batters advanced their lead 6-1 by contributing two runs. Barajas walked and Kemp scored a single run.
The second run during the fifth was taken by Aaron Miles when Carroll hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to second base and James Loney occupied third base to end the inning. Kuroda struck-out four batters in his seven innings pitched with an ERA of 3.17.
He gave away five hits, two runs, two homers and two earned runs on his 92 pitches.
During the seventh inning, Pablo Sandoval was able to hit only a one-run homer towards left-field to reduce the Giants’ lead 6-2. At the bottom of eighth inning, Dodgers smashed two runs to get an 8-2 lead. Kemp struck a two-run homer towards centre-field
and Gordon added the final run.
As a result, Dodgers sealed the three-game series 2-1 after beating the Giants in a series decider.
