Matt Kemp’s decisive RBI helps Los Angeles Dodgers defeat Houston Astros 1-0 - MLB Update
Los Angeles Dodgers’ centre-fielder, Matt Kemp had a tremendous day with his bat as he hit an influential RBI and went 1-for-5 with an average of .319 in the Dodgers’ 1-0 victory over the Houston Astros at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles on August 12.
The pitchers had a cloudy appearance right through the game as they did not give away any run in the first nine innings. At the top of first inning, J.B. Shuck walked but at centre-field, Jason Bourgeois flied out and Jose Altuve grounded out. Similarly,
the Dodgers’ batters also looked powerless as Andre Ethier walked but the rest of his team-mates were struck out. Aaron Miles struck-out swinging and Casey Blake popped out to third base during first inning.
Dodgers missed some scoring opportunities during fourth inning when James Loney and Dioner Navarro both walked but Kemp flied out to centre-field and Justin Sellers flied out to left-field without contributing even a single run for their team. Astros batters
were shaky with the bat as in sixth inning, Carlos Lee walked and Bourgeois moved to second base but at right-field, Altuve flied out and at second base Shuck lined out.
During eighth inning, Astros’ pinch-hitter Brian Bogusevic singled off left-field and Shuck hit a drive into double play, catcher to short-stop to second but Altuve struck-out without getting any benefit from that double play. At the bottom of ninth inning,
Loney intentionally walked but Miles grounded out to second base and Tony Gwynn struck-out swinging.
Dodgers’ starter, Nathan Eovaldi was economical with his throws as he gifted just two hits without giving any run in six inning pitches. He walked four with an ERA of 1.64 and had three strike-outs on his 86 pitches.
Kemp stated his feelings as, “It always feels good to get the game-winning hit. That's one of the most exciting parts of baseball -- being responsible for helping the team win in that moment. I hit two balls hard today, and the one I hit soft becomes a hit.”
At last, Dodgers got off the mark and took a 1-0 lead in 10th inning when Kemp drove a single-run shot towards right-field, Blake scored one run and Ethier occupied second base to end the game. As a result, the Dodgers are leading 1-0 in the three-game
series played at Dodger Stadium.
