Matt Kenseth’s wife Katie Kenseth breaks shoulder in crash – NASCAR news
Matt Kenseth may have avoided being crashed out in Sunday’s Sylvania 300 but his wife, Katie Kenseth, was not quite as lucky.
Katie was practicing for the charity race “Better Half Dash” which is to be held on October 15, 2011 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. She crashed her ‘Bandolero’ car in the first of two practice sessions scheduled for this week before the actual race. She
was taken to a local hospital by the ambulance where she was treated and then released.
She is reported to have suffered damage to her shoulder blade but should recover soon. Matt Kenseth was at the spot when the accident happened and was spotted running down pit road to help his wife after the accident.
Matt Kenseth later posted on his Twitter that Katie had suffered “a broken scapula and some bumps and bruises.”
“That didn't turn out so well,” he posted. “She said that was the shortest racing career in history!”
The crash means that Katie Kenseth will not be able to participate in the Better Half Dash.
Matt Kenseth seemed to find the whole thing funny and later had another cheek up his sleeve, aimed at female driver Danica Patrick and her husband.
“Getting ready for better half dash test.... looking all over but no sign of Danica's husband,” he posted on Twitter.
The Better Half Dash will take place at Charlotte Motor Speedway in October before the Sprint Cup Race. The wives and girlfriends of NASCAR racers will participate in the charity event and will compete for 25 laps in go-cart shaped cars.
The NASCAR racers have the option of working as crew chief for their ‘better halves’ but are not allowed to make any changes in the specifications of the cars.
The top three will be given monetary prizes and the prizes will be will be paid to the driver’s charity of choice, with $5,000 going to the winner’s charity, $3,000 for the second place finisher and $2,000 for third.
The event is part of Bank America’s pre-race activities to generate money for charity organisations throughout the country.
