Matt Klentak becomes Los Angeles Angels assistant GM – MLB News
The Los Angeles Angels has appointed a fresh face to assist their new general manager Jerry Dipoto.
On Thursday the Angels’ management announced publically that they are hiring Baltimore Orioles’ director of baseball operations Matt Klentak as new assistant GM who will be directly assisting Dipoto in the coming days.
The Orioles’ executive vice president Dan Duquette was not pleased over Klentak’s decision but somehow managed to regard his personal choice going into the Angels’ front office.
Duquette said, “Matt had an opportunity to go to California and decided to go and we wish him well, we’ve got some other veteran baseball people in-house that I think can handle some of the administrative duties that Matt was doing for the team."
Last month, Klentak was interviewed by the Angels’ management and has been able to convince them of the extraordinary leadership skills he possesses.
However, from the Orioles point of view, Klentak’s presence was a great blessing. He not only changed the environment inside the Orioles’ front office but he also brought a new spirit into the team.
The Orioles, who ranked virtually no where in Major League Baseball, started a great winning run after Matt Klentak’s arrival. According to many baseball experts, the real face of Orioles’ game was revealed when Klentak became the director of baseball operations.
He totally changed the way Orioles used to treat players. He started giving them extra confidence and in the end, results started to come.
Now, since he has made his way into the Angels’ franchise where he will be working directly with GM, it is certain that positive results will follow.
Klentak’s multi-year contract will also ensure that he has enough time to make a viable strategy for the Angels especially for the next season in order to show his special leadership skills. The Angels will be looking to Klentak to help guide the team for
a successful Spring Training and a positive 2012 MLB regular season. Only time will tell if Klentak can bring some of his magic to the Angels and keep them on their winning ways.
