Matt Kuchar finishes the Transitions Championship campaign with 65 in the final round – Golf News
The United States Matt Kuchar shot a six-under par 65 in the final round of the Transitions Championship to move 29 positions up on the leaderboard on Sunday, March 18, 2012.
The tournament was played at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Palm Harbor, Florida.
Kuchar started his final round with back-to-back birdies on the first two holes. In total, he carded six birdies and never missed a par putt to go for a bogey.
Therefore, his bogey-free round earned him another top-10 finish of the season, as he finished tied for the 10th position on the leaderboard.
In 2012, Kuchar has played a total of six PGA Tour events and succeeded in recording three top-10 finishes.
Kuchar said at the end of the tournament that he found the greens most of the times he teed off. However, he failed to capitalise on them because of the average finishes with his putts.
Throughout the week at Innisbrook, he had been great with his irons and hit 77.8 per cent of the Greens in Regulation.
However, he was seen struggling with his putting technique, which restrained him from finishing even better on the leaderboard.
He had an average of 1.732 in putting. Therefore, he needs to take his putting seriously and bring any necessary changes before the Masters Tournament starts in the first week of April, 2012.
After three top-10 finishes in the season, Kuchar has succeeded in placing his name at the 14th place in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Moreover, his recent good form also makes him a good contender at the Augusta National.
He has now around two weeks to practice, as he is not a part of the Arnold Palmer Invitational slated to start next week.
Meanwhile, the 36-hole leader, Jason Dufner, shot an equal-par round to share the 10th place with Kuchar and two other players.
Dufner started off the third round with a one-stroke deficit to the overnight leaders, Retief Goosen and Jim Furyk.
Thereafter, he failed to impress his fans and mixed three birdies with three bogeys to remain on the same score.
Luke Donald was the player to come out of the field as victorious after managing to shoot a birdie on the first extra hole in the playoffs.
He defeated Furyk, Sang-Moon Bae and Robert Garrigus to earn his first victory of the season.
