Matt Kuchar makes another good start at the HP Byron Nelson Championship – Golf News
Matt Kuchar, the winner of last week’s Players Championship, carded a four-under par 66 in the opening round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship to share the 4th spot at the TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving, Texas on Thursday, May 17, 2012.
It was Kuchar’s fifth start of the tournament and the last year saw him tie for the sixth position on the leaderboard.
He told that he always likes to visit and participate in the tournament because of his personal affection with the area.
“I like it here,” he said. “My caddie is from the Dallas area, my instructor is from the Dallas area, I get to spend a little extra time with Chris O'Connell, and that is always helpful, staying at the Four Seasons is special, it's beautiful, where you don't
have to get in your car, there is a lot of great things about coming to Dallas for me”.
He got off to a slow start, as he carded a bogey on the first hole he played. However, he did not let his confidence shatter and went on playing good shots thereafter.
Two consecutive birdies on the third and fourth hole followed by another one on the ninth took him two-under through the front nine.
The back nine also witnessed him displaying some good set of skills that earned him another two birdies on the 15th and 16th holes.
He is currently two strokes behind the leader Ryan Palmer who carded a bogey-free six-under par 64.
He also talked about the 40-minute shot clock idea that he gave to tackle the slow game issue rising in the game of golf.
“It might be interesting to have a tournament with a shot clock,” he said. “I think I read an article where there was a- - throw in an event where there is a full- on shot clock on everybody on every shot”.
According to the idea, each player will have a shot clock with him and everyone will get 40 seconds to make his shot in order to keep the game moving in a reasonable speed.
