Matt Kuchar or Hunter Mahan, who will win the Travelers Championship?
Travelers Championship is just around the corner and there are many people eyeing the title. Many prominent names will be competing with each other for the title.
Matt Kuchar a very consistent performer on the tour has been not in a very good form recently, he is struggling for some reason.
His choice to play the Travelers Championship at the TPC River Highlands is an interesting one. With Ryder Cup around the corner, many people are playing to gather points, for the Ryder Cup.
In May, this year he won The Players Championship. This is one of the major titles he has won to this date, probably the most prized one.
As a result of that victory, his ranking improved greatly and he eventually jumped to number 5. However, since then, he has not lived up to his standards.
At TPC Sawgrass, he shot a last round of 70, two-under par to win by two strokes, outclassing Fowler.
After the Players Championship, people started believing in him, experts thought that his game is on the rise and he will do wonders in the upcoming events.
Surprisingly, it proved otherwise. Kuchar had a decent run at the US Open, where he finished T27.
If we take a look at his statistics, we would find that he had a decent season so far, not very outstanding but not very disappointing either. Out of the 13 events in which he featured, he has made cut in all the thirteen.
He has won PGA events. There is one third place finish, five top-ten finishes, and nine top-twenty five finishes. In all, he has earned a total prize money of $3,151,352. Not bad, I would say but a player of his caliber should perform better.
Is Matt Kuchar playing for the Title or the Points? Only he knows, but he is surely one of the players who have the strength and the capability to take home $6,000,000 with him.
Hunter Mahan, another great talent, who is featuring at this year’s Travelers Championship. He is also a previous winner, back in 2007, where he defeated Jay Williamson in the playoffs.
This year, he has won WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, where he defeated Rory Mcllroy by one stroke. He also took home the title of Shell Houston Open in the April.
His margins of victory in both the events have been very close but at the end of the day, a victory is a victory. After these two wins, he moved to the 4th spot in the World Golf Rankings, which made him the highest ranked American for the first time.
Apart from the two triumphs, his season overall has not been that impressive. Out of the thirteen events he played, he has managed to win two of them, while he has no top-three finish in the rest.
However, he managed the cut in twelve of those events, which has earned him a total prize money of $3,255,212. His recent form has not been very impressive, but he is a great talent.
It is difficult to say who has better chances of winning because the competition is very tough.
Matt Kuchar and Hunter Mahan, both these players had an average season, with Mahan edging slightly ahead because of his two titles.
What I feel is that these two have fairly equal chance of winning.
