Matt Kuchar proposes a way to tackle the slow play on the PGA Tour – Golf News
The recent winner of the Players Championship Matt Kuchar has shown his interest in implementing a shot clock on the US PGA Tour, which, according to him, will help in combating slow play.
Kuchar said that the US Golf Association and the PGA Tour should at least implement the concept on a limited basis.
He said that the shot-clock should be set to 40 seconds, allowing each player to make the shot in the time allotted.
"It might be interesting to have a tournament with a shot clock,” Kuchar said. "An event where there is a full‑on shot clock on everybody on every shot. You would hope it wouldn't be a hard course".
"On a hard course, you're going to find yourself in scenarios, I think in a couple of places – Charlotte, Memorial, the Masters – greens are fast, you have challenging shots. Three‑footers, it's easy to tap in. In certain places if you have 3‑footers, and
you miss, it's 7 feet coming back. I would be interested to see a shot clock thrown out there".
Slow play has now become one of the hot topics on the PGA Tour and the golf commentators are hoping for ways that may address such issues.
The debate became more interesting when Kevin Na stretched his weekend round while playing alongside Kuchar at the Players Championship.
When Kuchar was asked to comment on Na’s slow play on Sunday, he replied by saying that he did not bother him at all.
According to the commentators, Kuchar’s answer was a typical one, especially when he was enjoying his first victory of the season.
However, Kuchar supported his comments by telling that how he and his friends used to bother each other in the college days with slow play.
According to him, he has now developed the ability of accommodating to different situations on the course, which has greatly helped him in different tournaments.
He also told that he met his old friends in a wedding ceremony prior to the start of the Players Championship, which helped him make a good run at the TPC Sawgrass.
