Matt Kuchar set for the US Open at the Olympic Club
The world number six, Matt Kuchar is set to make a strong start at the second major event of the year, US Open, scheduled to start from Thursday, June 14, 2012.
Kuchar is no doubt listed among the hot favourites at this year’s edition, at the Olympic Club, because of his recent form on the PGA Tour.
He has played a total of 12 tournaments on the 2012 PGA Tour season so far and managed to record five top-ten finishes, including a win in the Players Championship.
Following the practice round on Tuesday, he looked confident and said that his style of game is best suited for the Olympic Club. He is expecting a great competition ahead of him.
"My temperament and my game are suited very well for a U.S. Open," he said. "I'm a guy that also can manage my game well enough to make a bunch of pars and not get on bogey trains, so I definitely like my chances. A U.S. Open is a good fit for me".
The golf commentators believe that Kuchar has every right to be confident, as he won the Players Championship, which is considered as one of the elite tournaments in the world of golf.
"It was so exciting to have won the Players Championship, to have beaten maybe the best field in golf on one of the toughest golf courses we play all year. That helps a lot with confidence coming to a championship like this, coming to a course that's this
difficult and a field that's this good, knowing I've kind of been there and done it".
Despite all that, there is one thing that is making him feel a little worried. He know that the US Open has the ability to destabilize even the most informed player in the golfing world.
In addition to that, the Olympic Club’s challenging Lake Course is also regarded as one of the toughest golf courses around the world.
Therefore, he needs to remain focused and prefer his natural game on the course, rather than trying new things if he wants to register a major win this year.
Although a tough feat, Matt Kuchar can definitely succeed given he maintains his focus and remains determined.
