Matt Kuchar takes sixth place while entering the final round of the Travelers Championship
Matt Kuchar carded a four-under par 66 in the third round of the Travelers Championship to finish in a four-way tie for the sixth place, at the TPC River Highlands, in Cromwell, on Saturday, June 23, 2012.
Kuchar did not have a good start and went one-over par through 11 holes. Thereafter, he made a strong comeback and sank four straight birdies, starting from the 12th hole.
Another birdie to end the round made his day. He finished three strokes behind the leaders, Brian Davis and Roland Thatcher, who currently have a 12-under par three-round score.
“I got going a little slow at first, even par on the front nine and then bogey on 11,” Kuchar said. “Fortunately things picked up pretty quickly with I think four birdies in a row, 12, 13, 14, 15 was a helpful stretch and then made a bomb on 18, so it was
a great finish”.
Kuchar is now settled in a very good position while threatening his opponents for the final round on Sunday.
He told that the course is really friendly if one keeps the control over his game. However, it can turn against one’s favour if they start making silly mistakes.
“I think this is just a great course,” he said. “I think if you're playing well, you can make birdies, and I think if you're not playing well, the course is going to penalize you. I think we saw that with some good scores out there as well as some really
bad scores”.
He is now looking forward to winning the second PGA Tour event of the 2012 golf season, as he won the Players Championship, in May.
Kuchar has recorded a total of six top-10 finishes and 10 top-25 finishes in the 14 PGA Tour events that he has played so far in the current season.
Therefore, he is considered as one of the strongest contenders at the Travelers Championship this year.
Fredrik Jacobson, Padraig Harrington and Will Claxton are the other three players who joined him on the leaderboard. Harrington had the best round of all with a score of five-under par 65.
