The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international has come out and blasted England for not working hard enough and being fatigued at the European Championships in comparison to other teams as England were knocked out of the tournament by the
Italian national team at the quarterfinal stage...
The former Southampton midfielder has come out and made it clear that England were not fit enough to compete with other international teams at the European Championships. Le Tissier who is a legend at Southampton and respected
thoroughly across English football criticized Roy Hodgson as well for sticking to a rigid 4-4-2 system which caused England to feel weakened in midfield and thus give up ball possession too easily.
England did well in the group stages at the European Championships as the Three Lions drew their first group stage encounter against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ukraine-c3032 to set up a quarterfinal tie against
Italy.
The Azzurri forced England into a defensive mindset which was enough for the Three Lions to take the match to a penalty shootout where Ashley Cole’s penalty was saved by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gianluigi-Buffon-c14833 and Ashley Young struck the post with his
spot kick. England were knocked out as a result but Le Tissier has asserted that England looked leggy all tournament as they never really played good offensive football.
In truth, England’s mentality throughout the tournament was a defensive one as they scored on the counter attack or via set pieces. Ukraine and Sweden were both victims of such a strategy but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 dominated their match against
England from start to finish and duly earned their reward by setting up their own semi-final clash against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904.
Le Tissier said, “We look like the most unfit team out of all the others we have played. I know you get more tired chasing the ball all the time but there was no spark. The possession favoured the Italians. That’s where we have
to try and be better, by keeping the ball.”
He added, “Roy Hodgson has a way that he likes to play and he’s rigid in that. It’ll be interesting to see if he adapts or if he sticks with 4-4-2. The wide players have let England down. There wasn’t enough from Ashley Young or
