Matt Leinart confirms season-threatening injury, Texans desperate for replacement – NFL News
Matt Leinart return to National Football League (NFL), American football's premier league, proved too short as apparently a shoulder injury forced him out at sideline for rest of their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
However now it is being confirmed that it was not a shoulder but a collarbone injury, which has made his return to the game this season seriously doubtful. Houston Texan's coach Gary Kubiak has already hinted at for a new signee
at the quarterback position.
Leinart was injured in the second quarter of Texan's game against the Jaguars. The result of earlier tests on his shoulder had remained inconclusive. Despite this Leinart already knew there was only a little hope for him to stage
a return during current season. He had expressed his doubts himself soon after his return on the sideline in their game against Jaguars besides Matt Schaub, whom he replaced in Jaguars’ game.
Leinart has become Houston Texans’ second player expected to miss out current NFL season due to injury. Matt Schaub has already been ruled out for rest of current season due to his foot injury. Now, their coach confirmed they were
looking for replacement of Leinart at quarterback position.
An earlier communication had confirmed that Jake Delhomme, a free agent player, would do a workout for them this Tuesday and might be a potential for joining them given that he performed well during practice session.
Texans star quarterback Matt Schaub meanwhile has backed their fifth pick Taylor Jonathan (T.J.) Yates at his position. Yates had replaced injured Matt Leinart in second quarter of their last game but his performance was not that
impressive. He managed eight passes out total 15 throws for 70 yards. Schaub however backed him to be given the starting position.
Name of Brett Favre in the meantime has also emerged to be a potential for Texans quarterback replacement. Texans coach said that they will check the performance of other starters at quarterback positions, giving hints they might
also go for Favre.
Brett Favre had announced retirement from the game in January this year, after having played for about 20 seasons.
"I don't think you rule out anybody," Kubiak said when asked about Favre specifically. "There are a lot of names being mentioned. We've got to continue to work through the process. "I'm not going to rule out anybody, nor confirm
anybody."
The Houston Texans 8-3 maintain a two match-lead over the Tennessee Titans in American Football Conference (AFC) south division. However the latest injury scare has been threatening their advantage.
