Matt Prior feels stupid for breaking window glass at Lord’s
English wicket-keeper batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Prior-c1984, has disclosed the fact that he felt ‘stupid’ for breaking the window glass during the fifth-day of the second Test against Sri Lanka at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
The incident happened when Prior, after getting run-out on four in the second innings, threw his gloves away in frustration. The gloves smashed the window glass which fell down on a female spectator, cutting his ankle slightly.
Prior apologized the lady spectator but the affair didn’t finish there. International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) reprimanded Prior for his unkind behaviour and it was an embarrassing end of the story for the English wicket-keeper.
Terming it as a ‘freak accident’, the right-handed batsman once again stated that he had no deliberate effort behind that unpleasant incident.
"Every time I looked up at the pavilion during http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758`s second innings, I just saw this big broken window and I felt stupid more than anything else. When you make a scene like that, you`re thinking, `Oh no, what are people going to say?` It didn`t look
good, obviously, and I`d just been run out, but people were putting two and two together and coming up with five, seven, nine and 10," said Prior.
The 29-year-old wicket-keeper hit a marvellous century {126} and steered the home side to an imposing 486 in the first innings of the second Test which eventually ended as draw. But, he was sloppy with his wicket-keeping and did not make a good impression
behind the stumps.
However, he expressed satisfaction over his glove-work and described that that he was not angry for either poor wicket-keeping or run-out.
Referring the incident as no more than an accident, the English wicket-keeper explained, "It looks awful, terrible: run out, then a smashed window, but it was a complete http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Timothy-Raymond-Ambrose-c94079 accident. (The window) exploded when he was returning his bat along with others
in the dressing room."
After making his Test debut in 2007, the South African-born cricketer has played 42 Tests for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and holds an average of 43.80. Prior has also 123 catches and five stumpings to his credit in longer version of the game.
