Matt Reid defeats Takuto Niki in the first round – Toyota Challenger 2012 CH
Local challenger, Takuto Niki, received a devastating ending at the hands of the Aussie competitor, Matt Reid, in an exciting round one match of the 2012 Dunlop World Challenge Tennis Tournament held at the hard courts of Toyota,
Japan. He cruised past his challenger by collecting his outstanding win 5-7, 6-3, 7-6(5) on the eve of Monday in approximately two hours and four minutes.
The two contenders unveiled their true colours and thundered onto one another in order to take the front. The game swiftly advanced, where both the sides took turns to achieve their breakthrough against the other. Moving towards
the end, the Japanese took advantage of his home ground and swiped away his challenger’s serve in the 11th game. This boosted his confidence to an exalted mark and he nudged forward to pocket away the last two games, pulling out of the opener with
a 7-5 lead.
Ranked 268th in the South African Airways ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Rankings, Reid started to pick pace and smartly pocketed away the initial three games, marking a 3-0 lead. He completely
shattered his challenger’s confidence by cashing on his serve in the second game. However, the participants upheld their serves for the later part of the set and the Aussie consistently fired powerful serves without any trouble. He beautifully served to sustain
his lead and concluded the set with a 6-3 score line.
The decider proved to be a critical standing point for the two contestants. They battled against one another at a transcending pace, as they were desperate to bag away the win. The 25-year-old Japanese professional busted away
his opponent in the fourth game and despite of his former loss, he jumped up to mark a 3-1 lead. This arouse an alarming situation for the Aussie and he skilfully notched up the previous games, and ultimately won the match 7-6(5) after a close tiebreaker round.
The 22-year-old, Reid, bombarded 17 aces with a reasonable initial serve accuracy of 60 percent with 48 of 58 points. On the other hand, his contestant thundered 11 aces with 66 percent initial serve precision in response.
