Matt Rotherham and Joanna Rowsell win second day of British Track Championships 2011
Matt Rotherham (SIS) put in a tremendous performance in the second stage of the one kilometre time trial of the British Track Championships 2011 on Thursday, September 29. Matt became the first cyclist to win the Junior and Senior title in the same year.
Rotherham rode surprisingly and took the fastest time of 1 minute and 3.671 seconds while Steven Burke (TUK) was in second place with a time of 1:03.941 winning the silver medal. Sam Harrison finished third ahead of Bruce Croall (CED). Jody Cundy (PAR) who
is Paralympic Champion was in good form and able to take the bronze medal.
Peter Kennaugh took a lead in the points standing of the evening event with 85 points while Jon Mould was in second spot with 67 points ahead of Mark Christian.
Recently, Peter also grabbed third spot in Route du Sud and took the overall fifth place in Tour de Pologne.  
Joanna Rowsell who is the Former World Team Pursuit Champion showed her abilities and was able to take the individual pursuit with a time of 3 minutes and 30.474 seconds. She easily beat the other cyclists to take the gold medal in the Women’s category.
Team-mate Laura Trott (MLG) was in runner-up spot 3:33.272. Wendy Houvenaghel (BCR) finished third ahead of Sarah Storey and Dani King.
Rowsell told the media, "It's very satisfying to finally win a senior national title after being so close before. I'm really pleased with that. I wanted to do a PB, but I hadn't ridden an individual pursuit for two and a half years. I had no idea what sort
of time to expect."
She further added, "I thought I could back up well - at the Olympics, we'll have three rides, so I do a lot of training for that.”
Jon-Allen Butterworth showed his brilliant skills and broke another record (MC5) and set the greatest time of 10.897 in Para-cycling to cover the distance of 200 metres. He took the gold medal ahead of Aileen McGlynn/Helen Scott who secured the silver medal.
Neil Fachie/Barney Storey finished third.
The next Men’s Scratch race, Keirin and Women’s Points Race, Sprint and Para pursuit race will start tomorrow.
