Matt Russell loyal to Denver Broncos
It is that time of the year in the National Football League (NFL) when many teams change their general managers in the hope of bringing someone with fresh ideas.
One of those potential candidates being sought by many NFL franchises is Denver Broncos Director of player personnel Matt Russell.
Experienced and highly loyal, Russell is the ideal candidate for the general manager job at many franchises but it will be hard for teams to pull him away from the Broncos for which he is fiercely loyal.
Now in his fourth year at Denver, the Director of player personnel is in no mood to shift jobs and has asked the Broncos vice president of football operations John Elway to turn down any requests from other NFL teams for an interview to fill their vacant
general manager spots.
The news was broken by NFL Official Website’s senior analyst Albert Breer who received comment from Russell via text message.
In the message to Breer, Russell wrote that he is happy in Denver while his family is also well settled so relocation to another city does not make sense for him.
He also said that he is fiercely loyal to Denver and does not wish to leave his job with the Broncos for anything else at the moment.
According to the website Russell said:
"I stayed because I cheered for the Broncos in college. Fiercely loyal to the state and fan base and have a great staff I work with. And Elway is the best.”
Adding further he said:
"We have a great thing going and my fam is happy and so to jump at more money and relocate didn't make sense. I'm sure lots of guys in the league will think I'm stupid but it's sort of like (Eric) DeCosta at Baltimore. I'm loyal to this place and I don't
wanna leave."
The news will leave many NFL teams to continue their search with other targets.
Russell joined up with the Broncos in 2009 having previously worked as a scout for the Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patriots from 2001-08.
This will be great news for Denver Broncos while it also shows that loyalty to a team is still alive in professional sports.
