Matt Thornton’s future with the Chicago White Sox – MLB Special
After so many speculations in the media, now some Major League Baseball insiders are coming with trustworthy sources that the Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Matt Thornton is not sure over his affiliation and might go to some other team in the league.
The news of his next destination is not yet disclosed by any authentic source but this has now confirmed that his presence in the White Sox is highly compromised. Though, no official statement from his side or from the White Sox has come out in the public
but the environment is building when both sides will decide to announce their final verdicts of parting ways on a good note.
Thornton’s recent comments in the media also suggest that the uncertainty has now grown further where he himself is pretty confused over what is coming next.
Thornton’s comments, “I plan on going to SoxFest in January, and that's all I know, whether I'm going to be a White Sox player and that kind of stuff, I don't get hung up on that. I love the game of baseball, and I would love to be with Chicago for the rest
of my career. But I really have no call. It's out of my hands. It's one of those things where things weren't going good for us and I was part of that in the back end of the bullpen, they had to make changes at the time.”
After these comments, many baseball pundits started their calculations on how this split might go and at what costs. Thornton, who has still two years of his contract with the White Sox and can make decent amount of money if he decides to stay but on the
other hand, his decision of leaving the club will not provide any extra contract from another team in the league.
Thornton is in his late 30’s where majority of players want to stay with their current team if they have a decent contract but as an individual if someone wants go for their own reasons, it does not mean that they end up earning the same amount of money
from their next franchise as well.
The most important reason of his potential deal with any other team in the league will likely to have his stats’ inquiry. Thornton has not only a very hard grip on the game but his pitching skills have won many encounters for the White Sox in the past. The
offseason bargaining has been started but some more days will decide as what is the probability of Thornton’s future.
In some other case, when a player wants a raise in salary or length in the contract, the agent plays a very significant part while here too, Thornton’s future will be very much argued when his agent told the White Sox officials that his client is not interested
playing for their franchise.
People were expecting much retribution from the White Sox when they come to know that one of their players is not going to stay with them any longer.
However, these kinds of reactions might not come in the next few days as the White Sox management is now in serious talks with some other teams to make up a potential deal for Matt Thornton.
