Matt Tolbert and Scott Baker spark as Minnesota Twins rout Cleveland Indians 6-4 – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins’ second baseman, Matt Tolbert and starter Scott Baker both were outstanding right through the day as Tolbert hit two RBIs and Baker struck-out five batters in the Twins’ 6-4 victory against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field, Cleveland
on June 6.
The Twins snapped the first win out of three-game series against the Indians. In the very first inning of the game, the Indians scored two runs to get a 2-0 lead. Asdrubal Cabrera hit a solo homer (388 feet) towards right-field and Michael Brantley put a
second run on the score-board.
At the top of second inning, the Twins posted two runs to tie the game 2-2. Tolbert singled to right-field, Michael Cuddyer and Delmon Young added two runs while Tolbert advanced to second base on a wide throw.
Third and fourth inning passed without any run from both teams. The pitchers threw the ball in perfect line to control the scoring shots of the batters. Baker pitched seven innings with an ERA of 3.86 and permitted four runs on nine hits including three
earned runs. He had five strike-outs and gave no walk on 103 pitches.
Cabrera said, “We've got to pull everything together. We've got to do it soon. We're going through a bad time right now.”
The Indians’ manager, Manny Acta said, “We let him get into a rhythm and pound the strike zone and he got the best out of us. I thought we were going to be able to score more runs.”
In the fifth inning, the Twins scored three runs while the Indians were able to add only one run to move their score-card 5-3. Luke Hughes scored his first run when Drew Butera drove towards first base. Alexi Casilla hit a grounder into a double play and
Tolbert contributed a single run. The third run was taken by Butera on the wild pitch of Josh Tomlin. On the other side, Brantley homered (409 feet) to add one run for the Indians during the fifth inning
The Twins extended their lead 6-3 in the sixth inning when Cuddyer completed one run on the double run shot of Young to centre-field. Seventh inning was score-less but in the eighth inning, the Indians scored one run to cut their deficit 6-4. No run was
contributed during the ninth inning.
