Matt White resigns from Team Orica-GreenEdge and awaits the ASADA decision
Matt White has done the right thing by stepping down from his management role in Team Orica-GreenEdge.
The Australian was accused of doping according to the Floyd Landis’s evidence provided in the USADA investigation relating Lance Armstrong and Team Us Postal.
"I am sad to say that I was part of a team where doping formed part of the team's strategy, and I too was involved in that strategy,” he briefed after recording his confession.
“My involvement is something I am not proud of and I sincerely apologise to my fans, media, family and friends who trusted me and also to other athletes in my era that consciously chose not to dope".
“I have endeavoured to educate and guide the current stars and to ensure that future generations never have to deal with the pressures that existed in the past”.
Matt started riding professionally with Team Amore & Vita-ForzArcore in 1998 and joined Team Vini Caldirola through 1999-2000.
He became part of Team US Postal for almost three years, from 2001-03 but even the short amount of time was enough to leave stains on his entire career.
White also rode for Team Cofidis (2004-05) before signing a two-year deal with Team Discovery Channel from 2006-07.
The 38-year-old took his first managerial job with Team Slipstream-Chipotle in 2008 and served the team with his experience for three consecutive years before he was approached by Shayne Bannan.
Bannan applied for Team Orica-GreenEdge’s World Tour licence for the 2012 season and hired Matt’s services.
The team is supporting Matt’s decision to step down from his management position and awaits the results, as noted in a statement released earlier.
The Australian team has cited that it will not make any further comments on the matter until the final decision is made by the authorities.
Matt was also serving the Australian National Team as a Selector and has now resigned from his job until hearing concludes.
White’s future remains in the dark and nothing further can be said as to whether he will be taking the management role back with Team Orica-GreenEdge and the National team, until the Australian Sports Anti Doping Authority complete their investigations.
