Matt Wieters and Vladimir Guerrero shine as Baltimore Orioles humiliate Minnesota Twins 11-0
Baltimore Orioles’ right-fielder Vladimir Guerrero and catcher Matt Wieters both put in a combined effort in the Orioles’ 11-0 victory against the Minnesota Twins at Oriole Park, Baltimore on Tuesday.
Guerrero struck a home run while Wieters hit four RBIs in a game which resulted in the end of eight-game losing streak. Wieters took his first RBI single in the third inning and scored a three-run double during the fifth inning. On the other hand, Guerrero
hit the home run towards the left-field against the Twins’ reliever Joe Nathan in the eighth inning. It was his second homer of the current Major League Baseball season.
The Orioles’ Manager Buck Showalter had a superb feeling after this win. He said, "You go through things like this with real good clubs and with bad clubs. This one had a different feel to it for me, and I still feel that way. There was a real confident
[mentality]. The frustration was due to knowing they were capable of doing better."
The Orioles’ starter Jake Arrieta had a notable day as he allowed no run on four hits in six inning pitches. The Orioles took a lead of 8-0 during the fifth inning and assured their first win after a long period. There were 11 runs on 13 hits against Arrieta
which was considered as the season’s high rank pitching.
Arrieta gave up three walks including four strike-outs and pitched with an ERA of 5.06. It was the best season for him as he did not permit a run for the second time in the 22 starts of his career.
The Twins’ Manager Ron Gardenhire was disappointed with his team’s performance and there is little option left for amendment in the roster as Joe Mauer was also on the disabled list.
Speaking to reporters, Gardenhire said, "Right now, the challenge is getting my lineup out there, to get my guys back on the field. We've got a few too many holes out there. We need our boys to get back on the field. Whether we're going to be able to do
that, I'm not positive."
For the Twins, Carl Pavano did not perform like a game winner as he allowed eight runs on eight hits including seven earned runs. He pitched four innings and had only three strike-outs. While in last 16 innings, he had an exemplary record in pitching as
he gave only one run.
