  1. Hes accomplished so much in the division and he is old now for a pro fighter. You can see it in his eyes and the way he carries himself now days that he doesn't do it for titles and fame no more. There is no fire in his eyes. He just does it for the love of the game and money.

  2. its not that he's done...he just needs to think whats good for matt hughes right now....do i go to a better camp? is my cairdo good? Hows my strikeing?....but age wise...he's proply got a few fights left...but nothing big...nothing like GSP..or John finch....but i think he just might retire with the Serra fight...and i think he has a good chance on winning that fight.

  3. Matt has a lot of fight left in him . His problem is that he is too aggressive and overlooks the importance of being a defensive fighter also.

It seems like he is fighting to survive and earn points for a decision instead of fighting to win by submission or knock out.

Fighting to win and being anxious to win are two different things.

Fighting to win will help you win and being anxious will help you get knock out.

  4. i think he is.  Fighters have evolved past him, his striking always sucked and he relied on taking guys down and pounding on them.  MMA guys are becoming more well rounded where you can't be one dimensional

  5. He says he has one more fight left in him and I believe him. I think he will face Matt Serra and win, lose, or draw will retire after that fight because he is not the same Matt Hughes. He isn't the unusually strong fighter that overpowered his opponets in the past, as he got tossed around by GSP and Alves was also considerably stronger (considering he didn't make weight)

  6. I think he's seen better days. Maybe it IS time for him to go home to his tractor on the farm again. He was good in his time, but he just doesn't seem to have that "winner" attitude in him anymore. Maybe it's because he's already made so much money that it really doesn't matter to him anymore. Maybe it's because he just doesn't have it anymore. Either way, it's time to retire Matt.

  7. I think its about over for Hughes in the UFC.  He has one fight left on his contract and Dana White promised him Matt Serra when Hughes agreed to the UFC 85 fight with Alves after Liddell had to pull out from the card.

MMA is evolving and growing so fast and it is unfortunate to see that the sport has passed by Matt Hughes.  Matt doesn't seem to be learning and growing along with the sport like the young fighters and some of the other premiere fighters in the sport are.  Robbie Lawler, one of Matt's training partners and friends, has evolved into a well rounded, technical MMA fighter--it is a shame that we can't say the same for Matt.  I think the Serra fight should be Matt's last MMA fight unless he truly rededicates his training and becomes a well rounded fighter--which I don't think will happen.  Matt seems set in his ways and unwilling to make the sacrifices needed to improve his striking.  Don't get me wrong, Matt is only 34 and has the time, money, and resources to do so, but I don't think it will happen or we would already be seeing evidence of such changes.
