how come matt hughes keep losing in devastating fashion, and he couldn't take thiago silva down during the fight, he barely took one single leg and took him down. and was he truly the greatest welterweight champion of the world? and i heard the rumors that floyd mayweather is fighting in ufc is that true?

  1. its just a rumor that mayweather is gonna be in the ufc, he would get worked, all he has is a punch, its not a street fight anymore, thats why tank abbott doesnt do good anymore, but about matt hughes, hes still one of the greatest but poeple are getting way better, his wrestling skills dont surpass some of the other people for instance thaigo silva,

  2. Hughes was only a great fighter in the days when strikers couldn't defend against a wrestler with ground and pound.  People have figured out how to defend against takedowns.  You've seen it all over, its the evolving nature of the sport....thus why royce gracie no longer dominates...people figured his style out and adapted to it......Hughes was a great wrestler, gracie a great bjj grappler, neither were very skilled at stand up striking....the future of mma is someone who can do it all and strike.

  3. lol no mayweather is retiring and matt hughes is retiring too i heard i saw it on the front page of Yahoo on the sports section a day or two ago i think too

  4. his name is thiago alves

  5. matt has won 43 fights and lost 7 and he said that he is thinking about retiring cause he doesnt wana b any1s highlight reel.

  6. umm i have no clue about wrestling or what ever your talking bout

but theres a kid in my grade called matt hughes

    thats freaky

sorry i had to say that

  7. The most important thing to a fighter, more than training, more than cardio-is confidence. If you don't believe you can really win, guess what. Look at the pre-fight interview. Hughes's trash talk was "look who's been a champion and who is the new guy." Not talkin about skills or how he's going to win. Sounds almost scared to me.

  8. because his body is shot, he's had 50 fights, most of them at a very high level of competition.  ok, sure his body is still in much better condition than most peoples will ever be, but its too worn out to compete at that level anymore, also he is no longer as hungry as he used to be.  Hughes has all the signs of a competitor who's body can't keep up anymore but mentally can't accept that fact and still wants to compete. he's slower, he is just missing oppurtunities, seems apathetic at times, etc. His body is simply too beat up to be able to do the things it used to do, it won't let him fight as well as he used to.  Also he is no longer training at Militech, but mostly his body is too beaten up to compete at the top level anymore. if he really works at it, especially if he goes back to militech, lets himself heal a bit, and is really smart about his training he may have one or two great, top level fights in him, but thats pushing it.  your body can only take so much punishment before it starts to break down, and hughes has reached that limit.

and yes he was the best welterweight champion we have seen so far, and I seriously doubt mayweather will be in the ufc anytime soon

  9. He as the most dominant welterweight fighter of all time in the sense that he has the most successful title defences. He is losing in devastating fashion because his gameplan is to takedown his opponet and grind them down. The only problem is that EVERY fighter in the UFC knows this. With the lost of his explosiveness he can no longer surprise his opponents with quick and powerful shots.
